The Department of Tourism (DOT) announces that the Philippines has officially been named one of the MICHELIN Guide’s “Most Exciting Food Destinations” for 2026. This prestigious inclusion places the archipelago among 16 elite global destinations, marking a historic turning point for the nation’s culinary reputation.
The recognition focuses on the vibrant culinary landscapes of Manila and Cebu, highlighting a sophisticated balance between time-honored traditions and the innovative techniques of a new generation of local chefs.
“Gastronomy is a vital expression of our national identity,” said Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco. “This recognition supports our broader goal of strengthening sustainable tourism by celebrating what is authentically Filipino. We aim to elevate our culinary identity, empower food producers, and share our unique stories with the world.”
The MICHELIN Verdict: Flavor and Freshness

-
Agriculture: The Philippines’ exceptional climate was credited for providing an abundance of fresh, high-quality produce year-round.
The MICHELIN recognition is the first of several major milestones for the country this year. The Philippines is also set to host:
-
Terra Madre Asia and the Pacific
-
UN Tourism World Gastronomy Forum 2026
Following the official arrival of the Guide on October 30, a total of 108 establishments across Manila and Cebu have been recognized:
| Award Category | Number of Establishments |
| Two MICHELIN Stars | 1 |
| One MICHELIN Star | 8 |
| Bib Gourmand (Quality cooking at moderate prices) | 25 |
| MICHELIN Selected | 74 |

In addition to dining, the Guide recommends premier accommodations for culinary travelers, including the Grand Hyatt Manila, Shangri-La at the Fort, and beachfront stays like Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu and Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan.
