The Department of Energy (DOE) has entered an expedited phase of development for 22 strategic renewable energy projects aimed at diversifying the nation’s power mix and ensuring a long-term, stable energy supply.
During a press briefing held at the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development in Iloilo City, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reaffirmed the administration’s aggressive push toward a sustainable energy future.
Undersecretary Castro emphasized that the DOE is prioritizing the removal of bottlenecks to bring these alternative power sources online as quickly as possible.
“The DOE is now fast-tracking these renewable energy projects,” Castro stated. “Nakatutok po ang DOE para sa ating mga alternative resources (The DOE is focused on our alternative resources).”
The 22 expedited projects represent a multi-pronged approach to energy security, focusing on high-yield solar energy and critical storage infrastructure. The current pipeline includes:
-
12 Solar Projects: Tapping into the country’s vast photovoltaic potential.
-
6 Hydroelectric Plants: Utilizing natural water resources for consistent baseload power.
-
2 Biomass Facilities: Converting organic waste into functional energy.
-
1 Wind Project: Expanding the footprint of wind farm technology.
-
1 Integrated Renewable Energy Storage System: A flagship initiative designed to solve the intermittency issues of green energy and stabilize the national grid.
The acceleration of these projects is part of a broader mandate to reduce reliance on imported fuels and mitigate the impact of global market volatility on local electricity consumers. By integrating advanced energy storage systems with solar and wind assets, the government aims to provide a more reliable and resilient power infrastructure for the Filipino people.
