The General Santos Airport remains open to military, humanitarian, government, and cargo flights, while commercial operations are expected to resume within a week, Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez announced.
Lopez said he has ordered the immediate repair of the passenger terminal building to enable the resumption of commercial flights within the next seven days.
During an inspection of the airport on Tuesday, Lopez found damage caused by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, including damaged ceilings, cracks in walls, and broken glass at the control tower.
He also directed authorities to conduct a thorough assessment of the structural integrity of the passenger terminal building, including its electrical wiring systems, to ensure the safety of workers and passengers.
Meanwhile, Lopez ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in General Santos City to issue special permits to bus companies that will ferry affected passengers between Davao Airport and General Santos City.
