PPA clarifies trip cancellation protocols amid low-pressure area, lists affected routes

Following a series of voyage cancellations due to a low-pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) issued a clarification today on protocols for sea travel cancellations to guide commuters and maritime stakeholders.

The PPA emphasized that it does not cancel trips on its own authority. Under standard maritime safety procedures, trips are automatically cancelled if the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) issues a “No Sail” policy due to adverse weather, which legally prohibits vessels from leaving the port. Additionally, shipping lines may independently choose to cancel their trips, provided they comply with the terms and conditions of their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) issued by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

Due to the current LPA, several Port Management Offices (PMOs) have reported trip cancellations across key regional hubs. Passengers are advised to coordinate directly with their respective shipping lines for rebooking and refund procedures.
