The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) today expressed its strong support for the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) under the leadership of Chair Atty Saturnino Juan, citing recent reforms that promote consumer welfare, enhance competition, and strengthen regulatory efficiency.
Among the key milestones recognized by PCCI are the lowering of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) threshold to 100 kW effective June 26, 2026; the streamlining of net-metering requirements; expanded transmission infrastructure access through third-party participation; and the suspension of the Green Energy Auction Allowance (GEA-All) to provide direct bill relief to consumers.
PCCI also commended the ERC for adopting new rules on off-grid service charges to improve electricity access in underserved communities, approving transmission development rules for point-to-point limited projects to bolster energy security, publishing generation market share data to enhance transparency, and maintaining faster approval timelines that boost investor confidence.
The Commission’s consistent audit excellence, earning unmodified opinions from the Commission on Audit for five consecutive years, was likewise noted as a testament to its transparency and accountability.
“The ERC’s recent reforms reflect a clear commitment to lowering electricity rates and ensuring a reliable, transparent, and competitive power market,” said PCCI President Perry Ferrer. “We commend Atty. Nino Juan and the Commission for their decisive actions that directly benefit consumers and industries alike.”
Echoing this support, PCCI Director for Energy and Power David Chua emphasized: “These measures are not only pro-consumer but also pro-industry. By expanding access, streamlining processes, and safeguarding competition, the ERC is laying the groundwork for a stronger and more sustainable energy future. We stand firmly behind the Commission’s vision and leadership.”
PCCI reaffirmed its shared vision with the ERC of an energy sector that is efficient, pro-consumer, and responsive to the needs of industries and communities across the country.
