China Banking Corporation continued its strong growth momentum in the first half of 2026, posting a net income of ₱14.5 billion—an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. The double-digit expansion was propelled by vibrant core lending activity, sound cost management, and healthy asset quality across its portfolio.
The Bank maintained high profitability metrics, reporting a Return on Equity (ROE) of 15.1% and a Return on Assets (ROA) of 1.6%.
Financial Highlights (H1 2026)

Robust Earnings: Net interest income climbed 14% year-on-year to ₱39.7 billion, supported by a net interest margin expansion to 4.67%.

Strong Asset Base: Total assets expanded by 13% to ₱1.9 trillion, solidifying Chinabank’s position as the country’s fourth-largest private universal bank.

Core Lending Expansion: Gross loans grew 17% to ₱1.1 trillion, reflecting robust funding demand across both corporate and consumer lending segments.

Low-Cost Deposit Growth: Total deposits reached ₱1.5 trillion, up 14%. Low-cost checking and savings accounts (CASA) surged 20% to ₱750 billion, pushing the CASA ratio to 49% and effectively lowering overall funding costs.

Solid Capitalization: Total equity rose 11% to ₱192 billion, lifting book value per share by 11% to ₱71.46. Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio remained strong at 15.6% and 14.7%, respectively.
Operating expenses increased by 11% to ₱18.4 billion, largely driven by investments in strategic business expansion. Despite these investments, the Bank maintained operational efficiency, with a cost-to-income ratio settling at 50%.
Asset quality improved further as the Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio dropped to 1.5%. Recognizing ₱1.2 billion in impairment provisions during the period, Chinabank sustained a highly adequate NPL coverage ratio of 106%.
