PEZA congratulates Universal Robina on mega plant inauguration in Batangas

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) extended its warm congratulations to Universal Robina Corporation (URC) on the successful inauguration of its new Mega Plant in Malvar, Batangas, held on July 31, 2026.

The milestone event coincided with URC’s 70th anniversary of producing quality food and beverage products for consumers in the Philippines and across the globe.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga, Malvar Mayor (Ret. Admiral) Artemio M. Abu, URC Chairman Lance Y. Gokongwei, URC President Irwin Lee, along with local government officials and key executives from URC and JG Summit Holdings.

The PEZA Board approved URC’s ecozone development and manufacturing projects in 2025, representing an initial investment of PhP 2.75 Billion. This strategic expansion enables URC to scale its export-oriented operations while strengthening its strong presence in the domestic market.

Once the ecozone is officially proclaimed and the facility reaches full operations, the project is expected to:

  • Boost Production Capacity: Significantly enhance URC’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly for its iconic snack food lines.

  • Optimize Supply Chains: Increase operational efficiency and distribution responsiveness.

  • Generate High-Quality Jobs: Create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents of Batangas and surrounding provinces.

  • Elevate Philippine Exports: Enhance the nation’s competitiveness in the global food manufacturing sector.

Highlighting the long-standing partnership between the government and local industrial leaders, PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to supporting domestic enterprise growth: “PEZA remains committed to supporting homegrown Filipino companies like URC as they continue to expand, innovate, and strengthen the Philippines’ position as a premier investment and manufacturing destination.”
