Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways, and SITA launch ‘Fast Pass’ biometric journey across 700 touchpoints

Hamad International Airport (HIA), in partnership with Qatar Airways and global air transport technology leader SITA, has  launched Fast Pass, a state-of-the-art biometric passenger processing solution. Connecting over 700 touchpoints across the airport into a single, unified biometric journey, Fast Pass represents one of the largest deployments of its kind in global aviation history.

Designed to streamline the passenger flow and enhance the travel experience, Fast Pass allows travellers to navigate the airport from arrival to boarding using only their face as their primary travel credential.

Fast Pass simplifies passenger movement through a secure, single-enrolment process:

  1. One-Time Enrolment: Passengers enrol either prior to arrival via the Qatar Airways mobile application during check-in or at designated airport self-service kiosks using a valid passport and facial scan.

  2. Secure Digital Identity: The system generates a encrypted digital token linking the passenger’s facial biometrics directly to their passport, boarding pass, and flight itinerary.

  3. Seamless Touchpoints: Once enrolled, travellers use facial verification across all participating terminal touchpoints—including self-service bag drops, automated security lanes, and self-boarding gates—without repeatedly presenting physical travel documents.

By utilizing SITA’s integrated self-service technology, the passenger’s identity is verified consistently throughout the entire journey, eliminating redundant identity checks at individual gates or checkpoints.

Unlike traditional biometric implementations that operate as isolated point solutions at single gates or security checkpoints, Fast Pass represents a major architectural leap forward. The platform resolves passenger identity once upon enrolment and references that identity securely across all integrated airport systems.

Connecting over 700 touchpoints into a centralized ecosystem solves a complex systems-integration challenge, delivering a faster, frictionless journey while maintaining strict security standards.

Fast Pass is currently an opt-in service available for eligible Qatar Airways passengers departing directly from Hamad International Airport in Doha. Kiosk-based enrolment currently covers the traveller’s active flight itinerary.

While Fast Pass streamlines terminal touchpoints, passengers are still required to carry their physical passports for immigration checks and backup verification.

Future expansion phases plan to integrate Qatar Airways’ extensive transfer passenger traffic—a critical demographic for the Doha hub—along with other international airlines operating out of Hamad International Airport.
