The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) successfully convened their recent 15th Bilateral Meeting at the National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila, marking another significant milestone in maritime cooperation between the two nations.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG warmly welcomed Superintendent General Wonjae Lee, Director General of the Equipment and Technology Bureau of the KCG, during a courtesy call. The PCG delegation was led by Chief of Coast Guard Staff Rear Admiral Glide Gene Mary Sontillanosa.
Building upon the Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Cooperation signed in October 2024, both coast guard organizations used the platform to:

Review Ongoing Initiatives: Evaluated current capacity-building programs and professional exchange efforts.

Enhance Maritime Security: Exchanged vital perspectives on regional maritime security and areas of mutual interest.

Improve Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA): Agreed to establish a dedicated information-exchange mechanism and update working-level points of contact to streamline communication and operational synergy.
To deepen mutual understanding of operational environments and capabilities, the KCG delegation toured several key PCG facilities and assets, including:

In addition to official engagements, the KCG delegation experienced the Philippines’ rich history and cultural heritage through guided tours of the National Museum and Intramuros, Manila.
The successful conclusion of the 15th Bilateral Meeting underscored the enduring partnership and shared commitment of both agencies to sustained dialogue and regular exchanges. Both organizations are already looking forward to the 16th PCG-KCG Bilateral Meeting, which will be hosted by the KCG in the Republic of Korea in 2027.
