DPWH inspects Remedios Pumping Station to ensure flood mitigation amid heavy rains

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected the Remedios Pumping Station along Roxas Boulevard on Wednesday to guarantee that drainage systems are fully operational and capable of accelerating water flow in flood-prone areas across Manila.

The inspection follows a direct directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who mandated that all pumping stations nationwide remain operational to mitigate severe flooding in low-lying zones during the ongoing habagat (southwest monsoon) season.

Key measures implemented at Remedios Pumping Station:
  • Active Deployment: Two mobile pumps are currently running continuously at the site.

  • Inter-Agency Support: An additional mobile pump provided by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) bolsters drainage capacity.

  • Ongoing Repairs: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) maintenance teams are fast-tracking repairs on damaged permanent pumps, targeting a return to full capacity as soon as possible.

The deployed assets aim to rapidly alleviate flooding affecting Taft Avenue, Kalaw Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, and surrounding communities in Manila. The DPWH continues to monitor critical flood-control infrastructure across the metropolis to ensure public safety during heavy weather events.
