PNR intensifies maintenance operations on San Pablo-Lucena line to ensure passenger safety

To guarantee the continued safety, durability, and reliability of rail operations, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) has successfully rolled out a comprehensive series of intensive maintenance activities along the San Pablo to Lucena railway lines.

These continuous infrastructural measures are aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, reflecting the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring and maintaining safe, orderly, and dependable public transportation for the Filipino people.

The extensive rehabilitation project covers critical areas of railway engineering and environmental management, including:

  • Track Vegetation and Plant-to-Plant Maintenance: Clearing overgrown foliage to maintain an unobstructed line of sight for train drivers while preventing mechanical parts from becoming clogged or blocked by vegetation.

  • Ballast Preparation and Stabilization: Establishing a solid foundation for new ballasts to ensure an even, stable track-bed, effectively preventing derailments and securing a smooth ride.

  • Structural Integrity Reinforcements: Upgrading the framework to guarantee that the railway can safely withstand the heavy loads of passing trains and resist structural wear and tear.

  • Paglilinis ng mga Daluyan ng Tubig (Clearing of Waterways): Clearing drainage systems to prevent blockages and flooding near the tracks, protecting the railbed from soil softening and averting service disruptions during the rainy season.

These proactive measures place top priority on the safety of both passengers and the communities residing along the railway corridors, providing vital resilience against seasonal weather changes. The PNR remains steadfast in its mission to deliver modern, reliable, and secure rail services nationwide.
