President Marcos honors key contributors to open governance at OGP Asia-Pacific Regional meeting

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. celebrated the crucial roles of representatives, partners, and stakeholders of the Philippines Open Government Partnership (PH-OGP) in promoting open governance.

At the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) in Taguig City on Thursday, President Marcos praised Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, chair of PH-OGP, for her leadership in advancing the Open Government Agenda in the Philippines. He also acknowledged Malayang Lapian ng mga Kababaihan (MALAYA KA, Inc.), a civil society organization (CSO) led by Ms. Aurora Chavez, for its commitment to fostering open government and addressing social issues.

President Marcos highlighted the impressive participation in the nationwide advocacy campaign “OGPinas!” with 4,000 stakeholders from local government units (LGUs) and CSOs pledging their dedication to open governance.

He emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in governance programs such as the Citizen Participatory Audit Program, Grassroots Participatory Budgeting, and the Open Data Portal, which have earned the Philippines international recognition. “These initiatives allow our citizens to participate actively in governance, enhancing policy and program implementation. Through these efforts, we have been recognized globally,” he stated.

Established in 2011, the OGP aims to promote transparency and accountability, empower citizens, combat corruption, and leverage new technologies to strengthen governance across its member countries. The Philippines is proud to be one of the eight founding members of the OGP, alongside Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Today, the OGP comprises 75 member countries, 106 local governments, CSOs, and multilateral partners.
