Cebu Pacific achieves record ESG score, solidifying its position as a sustainability leader in aviation

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading carrier, has achieved its highest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance to date, earning a 2024 S&P Global ESG Score of 46. This impressive result positions the airline among the top-performing sustainable carriers worldwide, underscoring its commitment to environmentally and socially responsible air travel.

The S&P Global ESG Score assesses how effectively companies manage their ESG risks, opportunities, and overall impact. Cebu Pacific’s latest score reflects significant advancements across key sustainability areas.  The airline demonstrated substantial progress in its environmental performance, with a 17-point increase from 26 to 43. This improvement is attributed to a strengthened environmental policy, a more robust climate strategy, and tangible progress in decarbonization initiatives.  Cebu Pacific also maintains diligent management of risks associated with water and energy consumption, waste disposal, and pollutant discharge.

“A strong ESG performance is more than just achieving numerical targets; it’s about proactively managing risks and cultivating a more responsible business,” stated Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific President and Chief Commercial Officer. “Our latest S&P Global ESG score represents our best performance yet, and more importantly, it signifies the meaningful strides we are taking toward a sustainable future.”

Cebu Pacific’s commitment to social responsibility is also evident in its strong performance.  The airline scored 51 in the social category, exceeding the airline industry average of 44. This achievement highlights the airline’s dedication to fair labor practices, rigorous transportation safety compliance, robust passenger data protection, and effective workforce management.

Furthermore, Cebu Pacific’s governance score increased by two points to 43, reflecting improvements in risk and crisis management, as well as consistent performance in cybersecurity, information security, ethical practices, and transparent reporting.

This record-breaking ESG performance underscores Cebu Pacific’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the passenger experience while minimizing its environmental footprint. The airline remains dedicated to refining its policies and practices to align with evolving global sustainability standards.
