President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday praised the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for its unwavering commitment to saving lives, fostering hope, and exemplifying the true essence of compassion.
Speaking at the DSWD’s 74th-anniversary celebration in Pasay City, President Marcos acknowledged the department’s critical role in uplifting individuals, families, and communities facing adversity.
“Your courage, particularly during the recent spate of calamities, has been nothing short of extraordinary,” the President remarked. “You are the first to respond but the last to sleep. While others sought shelter from the storm, you walked into the chaos to deliver relief. You have saved lives, brought hope, and demonstrated the true power of compassion.”
Strengthening Social Welfare Programs
President Marcos highlighted several key DSWD initiatives that have significantly impacted millions of Filipinos:
- Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps): Benefiting over four million households last year, this flagship poverty alleviation program continues to provide financial and educational assistance.
- Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP): In 2024 alone, over 270,000 households received support to enhance their economic stability.
- Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens: More than 4.28 million elderly individuals benefited from this program, ensuring financial aid for the most vulnerable.
- Quick Response Fund (QRF): Offering emergency relief, the QRF assisted more than 7.4 million families in times of crisis.
A Vision for a Resilient “Bagong Pilipinas”
Emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and resilient society, President Marcos urged collective action in building a “Bagong Pilipinas” where no one is left behind. To support this vision, he introduced new initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility within the DSWD:
- Harmonized Electronic License and Permit System (HELPS): Designed to streamline application processes and improve service delivery.
- Minors Traveling Abroad System: A simplified clearance process for children traveling overseas.
- Pamilya sa Bagong Pilipinas Program: Focused on strengthening family welfare and development.
- “These endeavors reflect a government that listens and responds—a government that evolves to meet the needs of its people,” President Marcos affirmed.
As the DSWD enters its 74th year, its commitment to humanitarian service remains steadfast, ensuring that Filipinos in need receive timely and effective assistance.
