Nippon Express Philippines Corp. has emerged as the top performer in international cargo traffic for 2024, capturing a market share of 15.13%, equivalent to 48.09 million kilograms, according to data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB). This follows their dominant position in 2023 when the company also led the market with a share of 14.82%.
Satoshi Horikiri, President and CEO of Nippon Express Holdings emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to addressing social issues through its business operations. “Helping resolve social issues has always been a central role for the NX Group, and we will continue to do so with even greater proactive efforts moving forward,” said Horikiri.
However, he acknowledged that the world has evolved to a point where traditional approaches are no longer enough to address these challenges. “Decarbonization and labor shortages are two of the most pressing social issues facing the logistics industry,” he noted.
To tackle these concerns, Horikiri explained that logistics providers must shift their mindset and approach. “Automation, digital transformation (DX), and other emerging technologies will be key to our future. We are focusing our efforts on these innovations while also maintaining steady, incremental progress in other areas,” he added.
Federal Express Pacific secured the second spot in the rankings with a market share of 7.2%, representing 22.88 million kilograms. Kintetsu World Express (Phils.) Inc. followed closely with 5.03% or 16 million kilograms.
Other top-performing companies include Schenker Philippines, Inc. (4.94%), Yusen Logistics Phils. Inc. (4.41%), DSV Air & Sea, Inc. (4.27%), U-Freight Phils. Inc. (4.15%), DHL Express (Phils) Corp. (2.95%), Kuehne + Nagel, Inc. (2.94%), and UPS Delbros Transport, Inc. (2.57%).
According to CAB data, the total international cargo handled by forwarders in 2024 reached 317.91 million kilograms, an increase from 302.14 million kilograms in 2023. Of this, 17.62% was direct shipment, 43.29% was consolidation cargo, and 39.08% was breakbulk cargo.
