Kaneko expanding medical instrument manufacturing in Philippines

To bolster the Philippines’ position in the global medical device and pharmaceutical industry, Kaneko Medical Philippine Inc. has inked a Supplemental Agreement (SA) with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to diversify its production of medical instruments in the Philippines.

This agreement was signed by Kaneko Cord Co., LTD. President Tomoki Kaneko and PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga, as witnessed by Kaneko Chief Executive Partner David M. Matsumoto and PEZA Deputy Director General for Operations Vivian S. Santos on March 17, 2025.

Kaneko, a PEZA-registered Japanese locator in the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP-SEZ), is set to diversify its production portfolio to include guidewires and an array of advanced medical instruments. Their operations will integrate cutting-edge machinery and equipment, ensuring that the technology deployed is both unique and innovative and will further position PEZA as a critical node in the global medical supply chain.

Japanese registered business enterprises (RBEs) overseen by PEZA account for 28% of all approved economic zone investments, with a total of 800 Japanese locator companies nationwide.

These enterprises have collectively invested more than PhP 811 billion, generated $15.8 billion in exports, and provided employment to over 343,000 Filipino workers as of December 2024.

Established in 1972 in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, Kaneko MediX, Inc. has carved a longstanding reputation in the production of high-quality microcatheters. The registration of its subsidiary Kaneko Medical Philippine Inc. with PEZA further cements the Philippines’ role as a rising powerhouse in the global medical device industry, driving innovation, accelerating technological breakthroughs, and fueling economic growth for the country.
