Marcos orders free MRT, LRT rides for workers from April 30 to May 3 in honor of Labor Day

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced free rides on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 for all workers from April 30 to May 3, as part of the government’s tribute to the country’s labor force in celebration of Labor Day.

In a video message, President Marcos described the initiative as a gesture of gratitude to Filipino workers for their dedication, sacrifice, and vital contributions to national development.

“As part of our Labor Day celebration and to honor our hardworking workers, I have ordered free rides on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2,” said the President. “This is a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of our workers—not just to the economy, but to society as a whole.”

The free rides will be available across the three major urban rail lines for four days, from April 30 to May 3. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and rail line operators have been tasked to implement the directive efficiently, ensuring the safety and convenience of commuters during the period.

President Marcos emphasized the importance of recognizing the workforce’s role in driving the country forward. He also expressed hope that this initiative would ease commuting burdens for many workers, especially during the busy workweek.

This year’s Labor Day observance also underscores the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Filipino workers through wage reforms, support programs, and inclusive economic growth.
