Transportation Sec. Vince Dizon visits wake of SCTEX crash victims, vows justice and support

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon paid his respects at the wake of the eight individuals who lost their lives in the recent tragic road crash along the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). He extended heartfelt condolences and assured the bereaved families of the government’s unwavering support during this difficult time.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) expressed its deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and their loved ones.

Among those who perished were a five-year-old child and a 29-year-old man. Four others sustained injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Preliminary findings from CCTV footage indicate that the SUV driver had pulled over to drop off a passenger, suggesting there was no deliberate intent to harm passengers traveling from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). However, authorities emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing.

Secretary Dizon noted that emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, helping secure the area and prevent further harm to other motorists and passengers.

The DOTr, in coordination with the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and law enforcement agencies, is conducting a thorough and impartial investigation. This includes the review of all available CCTV footage and administering a drug test to the driver involved.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has already suspended the driver’s license for 90 days, pending the outcome of the investigation.

San Miguel Corporation, which operates the expressway, has committed to providing comprehensive assistance to the victims and their families.

The DOTr also made a public appeal for compassion and respect, urging citizens to refrain from sharing photos or videos of the incident on social media, out of consideration for the grieving families.
