The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has actively participated in the Special Interest Group A2 (Ports and Maritime) SIGA2 2025 Conference held in Antwerp, Belgium, from May 7 to 9, 2025, joining prominent global leaders in the maritime and port sectors.
Representing the PPA at this significant three-day international gathering was Assistant General Manager for Operations, Atty. Mark Jon Palomar. The conference, organized by SIGA2, provided a unique platform for experts from academia, industry, and policy to exchange critical insights and explore collaborative solutions in key areas such as logistics, sustainability, engineering, finance, and regional connectivity.
Distinguished from traditional conferences, SIGA2 fostered an environment of innovation by making paper submissions optional, encouraging researchers to further cultivate their groundbreaking ideas. The comprehensive program featured engaging scientific sessions, offering a rich exchange of knowledge and perspectives. Participants also benefited from an insightful port visit, providing a firsthand observation of Antwerp’s maritime operations and a cultural immersion experience in the vibrant City of Antwerp.
In addition to the SIGA2 conference, Atty. Palomar also attended the Fourth Shipping Event, a parallel forum that focused on pressing issues within the shipping industry.
Discussions centered on the crucial topics of sustainable port investments, the urgent need for ship decarbonization, and the development of innovative partnerships between the public and private sectors to drive progress.
The PPA’s active involvement in SIGA2 2025 and the Fourth Shipping Event underscores its unwavering commitment to strengthening international cooperation within the maritime community. This participation highlights the PPA’s dedication to staying at the forefront of global advancements and actively pursuing sustainable port development initiatives within the Philippines.
