MARINA calls out shipping line for violations, sanitary issues

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Region V has issued a show cause order against a shipping line  over multiple violations including overloading of passengers

In a statement on May 11, 2025, the Department of Transportation said that MARINA issued the order to Santa Clara Shipping Corporation.  In its show cause order, MARINA said that the shipping line’s vessel, MV Steve Albert, failed to follow its Matnog-Allen Port route schedule last May 10. The vessel also allegedly overstayed for more than three hours in Matnog.

It was also observed that the vessel had unsanitary and unhygienic restrooms. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that violations must not be tolerated.

MARINA has directed the shipping line to submit an explanation within 10 working days on why sanctions must not be imposed against them.
