Major upgrades coming to Naga Airport as part of transport modernization program

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) are set to launch major developments at Naga Airport as part of a strategic initiative to position the city as a key aviation hub in the Bicol Region.

Central to these efforts is the New Naga Airport Development Project, a transformative infrastructure investment aligned with the government’s “Build Better More” agenda under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon. The first phase of the project—focused on earthworks and site preparation—is scheduled to begin in September 2025.

The new airport site, envisioned under the broader Naga Airport Reorientation Project, aims to support full jet operations both day and night, adhering to international civil aviation standards. Once completed, it will significantly boost the region’s air connectivity, accommodating growing air traffic demands and further accelerating the economic development of Naga City and neighboring municipalities in Camarines Sur.

“This marks a pivotal step toward building a future-ready airport that will serve as a gateway to the Bicol Region,” said Secretary Vince Dizon. “The new Naga Airport is designed to deliver world-class air travel experiences for Bicolanos and travelers alike.”

In parallel, upgrades to the existing Naga Airport are already underway. These include the asphalt overlay of the runway, carried out in two phases with a combined investment of PHP 156.7 millionPHP 71.5 million under the 2024 CAAP Annual Procurement Plan (APP), and PHP 85.2 million under the 2025 APP.

Both the ongoing and upcoming projects reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to modernizing transport infrastructure nationwide and ensuring safer, more efficient, and more convenient air travel for all.
