In a continued effort to fulfill the national mandate of creating a safer, more inclusive, and commuter-friendly transport environment, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Local Government of Malabon City, officially unveiled two state-of-the-art Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Stops at Malabon National High School on Friday.
The project is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address the daily challenges faced by commuters and all road users across the country. The new infrastructure aims to transform public transport facilities into secure, inclusive, and accessible spaces for all Filipinos.
“This is a clear mandate—that transport systems must serve the people first. That we must build cities not just for cars, but for people—for those who walk, bike, and ride every single day,” said DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor during the ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
- Designed with commuter comfort, safety, and accessibility in mind, each PUV Stop features:
- Designated seating areas for persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, and senior citizens
- General benches for everyday commuters
- Safety and security enhancements, including CCTV cameras, concrete bollards, tactile paving, and an integrated lighting system
- Accessibility and information components, such as PUV route panels, advertisement panels, and PWD-friendly ramps
- Sustainability features, including solar panels, charging stations, a bike repair station, and bike map panels to support active transport initiatives
The initiative not only prioritizes convenience and inclusivity but also reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing public infrastructure while promoting environmentally sustainable transport solutions.
The newly inaugurated PUV Stops serve as a model for future transport infrastructure that places people at the center of design and policy, ensuring that no commuter is left behind.
