The Port Management Office of Eastern Leyte/Samar today extended a warm welcome to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, accompanied by Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago and other senior DOTr officials, upon their arrival at Tacloban Airport.
The high-level delegation’s visit underscores the DOTr and PPA’s ongoing commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and addressing regional connectivity challenges in Eastern Leyte and Samar.
Following their arrival, Secretary Dizon, General Manager Santiago, and their team are scheduled to proceed directly to the iconic San Juanico Bridge. A key objective of this visit is to conduct a thorough inspection of the bridge and assess the current state of transportation flow in the region.
Crucially, this trip also marks a return visit for DOTr and PPA officials to the Amandayehan Port in Basey, Samar. The Amandayehan Port is being actively considered as a vital alternative route for vehicles that may be affected by the ongoing condition or future maintenance of the San Juanico Bridge, offering a crucial contingency for regional transport.
The assessment of the Amandayehan Port is a testament to the government’s proactive approach in developing resilient and efficient transportation networks, ensuring seamless travel and trade within Eastern Visayas.
