The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is significantly advancing key infrastructure projects in Medellin, Cebu Province, in a concerted effort to stimulate the local economy. This initiative aligns directly with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to deliver high-quality infrastructure development to remote areas of the country under the “Build, Better, More” Program.
DPWH Regional Office VII Director Danilo J. Villa Jr. reported to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan that a total of 14 road and building projects, with a combined cost of P333.86 million under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), are currently under construction across various parts of the municipality.
The DPWH Cebu 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) is overseeing the implementation of these vital projects. Among the seven (7) road projects, costing P270.75 million, are the construction and improvement of roads in Barangays Don Virgilio Gonzales, Daanglungsod, and Canhabagat. Additionally, improvements are underway for the road leading to government offices in Barangay Poblacion, roads connecting to a popular beach spot in Barangay Kawit, and access roads to Medellin People’s Park, Museo de Medellin, and Sto. Nino de Medellin Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion. Preventive maintenance is also being conducted along the Bogo-Curva-Medellin-Daanbantayan-Maya Road. These road enhancements are in various stages of civil works and are expected to significantly improve mobility and support the burgeoning local tourism sector of Medellin.
Concurrently, seven (7) building projects, valued at P63.12 million, are progressing in other barangays. These include the construction of multipurpose buildings designed to enhance government services in Barangays Lamintak Norte, Luy-a, Dayhagon, Dalingding, Panugnawan, and Maharuhay. Notably, a new DPWH Cebu 4th DEO building is also being erected in Barangay Poblacion.
“These infrastructure projects are vital in fostering local economies, especially in areas that are distant from the city capital,” stated Director Villa. “We hope that with the completion of our projects, we can uplift the livelihoods of these communities.”
The ongoing infrastructure development underscores the government’s commitment to equitable growth and aims to bring tangible benefits to the residents and businesses of Medellin, Cebu.
