BOC strengthens commitment to inclusive growth at APEC workshop in South Korea

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) represented the Philippines at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Workshop on Inter-Dependencies in Global Value Chains (GVCs), held in Incheon, South Korea. The event focused on the crucial role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in driving economic growth and creating a more inclusive and sustainable regional economy.

The workshop, which brought together policymakers, trade experts, and private sector leaders from APEC member economies, provided a platform to address the challenges and opportunities for MSMEs in global trade. Discussions centered on practical ways to help these businesses overcome barriers, enhance their competitiveness, and fully integrate into regional and global supply chains.

Representing the BOC was Atty. Nicolas R. Kyamko III, Acting Chief of the Auction and Cargo Disposal Monitoring Division. The event’s sessions delved into key areas such as trade in intermediate goods, cross-border investments, and supply chain resilience. Participants also explored policy reforms designed to support the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) agenda.

In line with Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno’s vision for customs modernization and trade facilitation, the BOC reaffirms its commitment to active participation in regional dialogues and partnerships. By engaging in such collaborations, the Bureau aims to advance competitiveness, promote innovation, and contribute to a prosperous and interconnected Asia-Pacific region.
