ECCP Forum supports safer, smarter transportation in the Philippines

The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) recently concluded its 2025 Transportation Forum, where key leaders and stakeholders called for a stronger public-private partnership to enhance road safety and advance vehicle technologies in the country.

The forum, themed “Connecting the Philippines: Sustainable Transport, Safer Lives,” brought together policymakers and industry experts to discuss actionable strategies for a safer, more sustainable, and inclusive transportation future.

Key recommendations for road safety

During the event, the ECCP highlighted several key recommendations to improve vehicle and road safety. These include:

Expanding Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (MVICs): Increasing the number of inspection centers to ensure more vehicles on the road meet safety and environmental standards.

Broadening the Child Car Seat Law: A wider implementation of the existing law to protect children in vehicles.

Mandatory Safety Technology: Requiring Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for passenger cars and Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS) for motorcycles to prevent accidents.

Promoting Dash Cams and Reviewing Tint Restrictions: Encouraging the installation of dashboard cameras for accountability and re-evaluating vehicle tint rules to improve driver visibility and safety.

The forum emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between the government and the private sector on critical areas like driver education, vehicle safety technology, smart transport infrastructure, and sustainable transport policies.

A joint effort for a sustainable future

The ECCP is proud to have facilitated this important dialogue, bringing together diverse voices to address the Philippines’ evolving mobility landscape. This year’s event was made possible with the support of co-organizers, including the Embassy of Sweden in Manila and Business Sweden Asia-Pacific, as well as co-presenters such as Bosch Philippines, Volvo Buses, Ayala Corporation, ACMobility, and Axis Communications.

Advocacy partners and media partners were also recognized for their crucial support in making the forum a success. The ECCP extends its gratitude to all participants for their contributions and shared commitment to building a safer and more connected Philippines.

The ECCP is a bilateral foreign chamber that promotes European interests in the Philippines and vice versa. It is a leading voice in advocating for policies that support economic growth and business development.
