PH carsales fall flat in September on significant decline in passenger car segment

Domestic carsales fell flat in September bringing year to date sales to the negative territory with total sales reaching only 343,410 units or 0.3 percent lower  versus the January-September 2024, on significant decline in the passenger car segment and slower growth in the commercial vehicle segment.

A joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) showed that September sales reached only 38,029 units or 5.1 percent higher only compared to the previous month but 3.8 percent lower when compared to the September 2024 sales of 39,542 units.

Notably, the passenger car segment triggered the decline having sold only 7,948 units in September or 23.9 percent lower compared to September 2004 sales of 10,438 units.

For the January-September period, the passenger car segment also posted a similar decline of 23.6 percent with total sales of 69,306 units only from 90,765 units in the same period last year.

The commercial vehicle segment did not help much having contributed 274,104 units only, reflecting an 8.2 percent increase from 253,329 units sold in the first nine months of 2024. This segment also grew by a modest 3.4 percent in September with sales of 30,081 units from 29,104 units in September 2024.

Meanwhile, the total EV market categories registered total sales of 20,662 units accounting for an improved market share of 6.02 units for the January-September period.  There were 2,223 units total EVs sold in September, slightly slower than the 2,244 units sold in the period month.

CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez remained optimistic about closing the year on a high note the industry continued to embrace electrification and expand commercial mobility solutions.
