Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) announced that its President and Chief Executive Officer, Manny Rubio, has been awarded the prestigious Asian Power CEO of the Year at the annual Asian Power Awards ceremony. The MGEN Group further celebrated its successful strategy for developing a balanced and sustainable energy portfolio with additional recognition for its generation facilities.
The accolade highlights Mr. Rubio’s strategic leadership in navigating the region’s energy transition, emphasizing the importance of securing both baseload capacity and rapidly expanding renewable energy sources.
Upon receiving the award, Mr. Rubio extended the honor to the entire organization and reinforced MGEN’s core mission.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition from Asian Power, but this award belongs as much to the dedicated men and women of Meralco PowerGen as it does to me—their passion, expertise, and shared purpose drive everything we do,” said Mr. Rubio. “Our collective commitment is focused squarely on building a more sustainable and inclusive energy future for the region. As we continue to diversify our portfolio and transition towards cleaner sources, we remain steadfast in our mission to power a better tomorrow for all our communities.”
The MGEN Group was also recognized for its assets across the region, reflecting its commitment to high operational standards and pioneering renewable energy integration:
- MGEN Renewables Inc.’s Baras Solar facility received the Solar Power Project of the Year award for its pioneering role in large-scale solar deployment, demonstrating MGEN’s aggressive push into the renewables space.
- PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP), MGEN’s efficient gas-fired facility in Singapore, was recognized with the Gas-Fired Power Plant Operational Excellence Award, underscoring its role in providing reliable, low-carbon baseload power to the region.
These awards acknowledge MGEN’s dual strategy: optimizing existing thermal assets for efficiency while accelerating investments in solar, wind, and battery storage to achieve a resilient and environmentally responsible energy mix.
