PH bolsters investor confidence through historic tri-agency FDI data-sharing agreement

In a major step toward enhancing economic transparency and attracting global capital, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) signed a landmark memorandum of agreement (MOA) on foreign direct investment (FDI) data sharing.

The ceremonial signing was witnessed by Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA) and Secretary Frederick D. Go, marking a critical milestone in the national strategy to streamline, standardize, and elevate the country’s economic data infrastructure.

This inter-agency collaboration is designed to modernize the collection and reporting of foreign investment statistics. Key pillars of the agreement include:

  • Improved Data Quality & Accuracy: Eliminating reporting discrepancies among agencies through synchronized methodologies.

  • Expanded Coverage: Capturing a comprehensive, real-time picture of both incoming and existing foreign investments across all sectors.

  • Alignment with Global Standards: Harmonizing Philippine economic indicators with international benchmark protocols to ensure seamless comparison for global analysts and credit rating agencies. “Better investment data supports better policymaking, fosters a stronger investment climate, and ultimately creates high-quality jobs and opportunities for every Filipino,” said Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go.

Accurate and timely FDI data serves as a vital foundation for both public policy and private investment decisions. By establishing a unified data-sharing framework, the Philippine government aims to:

  1. Strengthen Investor Confidence: Provide international business leaders and institutional investors with transparent, highly reliable metrics on the country’s economic performance.

  2. Sharpen Economic Policymaking: Enable government agencies to craft targeted economic incentives, address sector-specific bottlenecks, and optimize investment strategies.

  3. Elevate ASEAN Competitiveness: Reinforce the position of the Philippines as a premier investment destination and competitive business hub within the Southeast Asian region.

The multi-agency initiative underscores the government’s whole-of-nation approach to fostering an open, predictable, and investor-friendly economic environment.
