As part of its aggressive, nationwide campaign to enforce traffic laws and ensure public safety, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Law Enforcement Service (LES) intercepted and impounded two public utility buses bound for Liwasang Bonifacio on Sunday, July 19.
LTO operatives flagged down the vehicles after detecting the use of improvised license plates while in transit. Following an immediate investigation, law enforcement officers cited multiple major violations, including operating unregistered vehicles, improper attachment of license plates, and unauthorized modification of vehicle colors. Both buses were promptly impounded.
Under the direct instruction of LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the agency reinforced its firm stance against traffic law infractions, emphasizing that enforcement remains strict, fair, and non-discriminatory.
“We will not look at who the owner or operator of the vehicle is; our sole focus is whether they comply with the law,” stated Assec. Lacanilao. “Using an improvised plate and operating an unregistered vehicle are clear violations that we will not overlook. There is no special treatment in our law enforcement—anyone who violates the rules will be held fully accountable by the LTO.”
The LTO stressed that operating unregistered vehicles and utilizing unauthorized plates compromise public safety and violate established transportation regulations. The agency strongly advises all motor vehicle owners and fleet operators to ensure their vehicles are fully registered and compliant with official standards prior to hitting the road.
