Philippines launches ASEAN 2026 Chairship: ‘Navigating Our Future, Together’

The Philippines officially launched its Chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2026, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos. The ceremonial launch took place at the historic Foro de Intramuros in the City of Manila, setting the stage for a year dedicated to strengthening peace and security, expanding regional prosperity, and promoting people empowerment across Southeast Asia.

The ASEAN Philippines 2026 Chairship will operate under the theme: “Navigating Our Future, Together.”

This milestone year highlights the Philippines’ role in advancing the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, a strategic roadmap aimed at establishing a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centered ASEAN Community. Furthermore, the Chairship will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), a foundational instrument for regional peace and stability.

The event featured the official unveiling of the ASEAN Philippines 2026 logo, which incorporates the standard ASEAN emblem symbolizing the unity and stability of Member States, along with the commemorative stamp for 2026.

A central artistic highlight was ‘The Guiding Wave,’ a striking installation by renowned artist Ohm David. Inspired by the ocean connecting the ASEAN Member States, the piece embodies unity, direction, and shared purpose. Its woven textures and deep blue illumination, complemented by live musicians blending Filipino craftsmanship with contemporary design, served as a dynamic centerpiece, evoking a wave carrying ASEAN toward a shared and brighter future.

The momentous occasion brought together a high-level assembly, including Philippine Government officials, representatives from ASEAN Member States, Dialogue Partners, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished guests from the business, cultural, and other key sectors, underscoring the regional and international importance of the Philippines’ upcoming leadership role.
