GCash and MRT-3 partner to offer ₱5 discount on fares through December 22

Commuting along the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) just got more affordable and convenient. GCash, the Philippines’ leading mobile wallet, has partnered with the MRT-3 management to offer riders a ₱5 discount on their fares when paying using select GCash services.

This limited-time promotion is available now and will run until December 22, 2025, encouraging commuters to experience the ease and speed of digital payments in their daily travel.

MRT-3 riders can easily avail of the ₱5 discount simply by choosing one of the following GCash payment methods at the turnstiles:

  • GCash Card (Physical Card): Tap your physical GCash Card at the fare gate for quick and seamless entry.

  • Commute QR: Generate the Commute QR code within the GCash app and scan it at the designated reader.

  • Tap to Pay (Android Only): For Android smartphone users, activate the Tap to Pay feature in the GCash app and simply tap your phone on the fare gate reader.

The ₱5 markdown will be automatically applied to the fare, deducted from the user’s GCash wallet upon tapping or scanning.

To ensure a smooth and successful transaction, commuters are reminded of the following requirements:

  1. Minimum Wallet Balance: Riders must have a minimum balance of ₱28.00 in their GCash wallet at the time of tapping or scanning to successfully pass through the turnstile and receive the discount.

  2. Tap to Pay Accessibility: The Tap to Pay feature is currently available exclusively for users with Android mobile phones.

“Our partnership with MRT-3 is a testament to our efforts to make commuting faster, more convenient, and now, even more cost-effective for the riding public, especially as the holiday season approaches,” said a spokesperson for Gcash.

MRT-3 encouraged all  patrons to take advantage of this special offer and enjoy the efficiency that digital payments bring to their daily commute.

The collaboration underscores the shared goal of both GCash and MRT-3 to enhance the commuter experience by leveraging financial technology to streamline public transport operations.
