Department of Tourism transforms layovers into adventures with new transit tour program

Starting January 16, international travelers passing through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can turn a long wait into a cultural escape. The Department of Tourism (DOT) has officially launched its first-ever Transit Tour Program, a curated four-hour guided experience designed to showcase the best of Metro Manila to passengers with at least an eight-hour layover.

This initiative aims to transform transit time into a meaningful introduction to the Philippines, offering a “taster” of the country’s rich history and vibrant modern lifestyle.

The program offers two distinct flavors of the Philippine capital. Eligible travelers can choose to explore:

  • Heritage Sites: A journey through time at the walled city of Intramuros and the National Museum, highlighting the country’s deep colonial roots and artistic legacy.

  • Modern Lifestyle Hubs: An exploration of contemporary Manila, featuring the premier entertainment, shopping, and leisure districts of Pasay and Parañaque.

The DOT has designed the program with traveler convenience as a top priority. Running from Friday to Sunday, the tour package is a comprehensive, “all-in” experience that includes:

  • Roundtrip transportation in comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles.

  • Expert insights from DOT-accredited tour guides.

  • All entrance fees and travel insurance.

  • Dedicated on-ground assistance to ensure a smooth transition back to the airport.

The program is open to international transit passengers from visa-free countries or those holding valid Philippine visas. By providing a seamless airport-to-city experience, the DOT hopes to create lasting first impressions that encourage transit guests to book a longer return visit in the future.

“We want to make every minute count for our visitors,” says the Department of Tourism. “By opening our doors even for a few hours, we are showing the world that the Philippine experience starts the moment you land.”
