The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) issued an urgent advisory to the seafaring public and port stakeholders regarding the implementation of heightened security measures and an expanded list of confiscated goods across all PPA-managed ports nationwide.
In strict compliance with existing safety regulations and recent directives from concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) and national government agencies, the PPA is broadening its inspection parameters. Effective immediately for the December 2025 peak travel season, the following items are subject to mandatory confiscation in addition to standard prohibited deadly weapons:
-
Unregistered Firecrackers and Pyrotechnics
-
Specific Agricultural Products without Permits
-
Highly Flammable Substances or Chemicals
-
Other Restricted Commodities
Prioritizing Passenger Safety. These measures are part of a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of millions of Filipinos traveling during the holiday season. By aligning with LGU ordinances and national mandates, the PPA aims to prevent the transport of hazardous materials that could compromise vessel integrity or public health.
“Our primary mission is to ensure that every passenger reaches their destination safely,” said a PPA spokesperson. “We urge the public to review these updated guidelines before heading to the terminal to avoid delays and the loss of prohibited property.”
Guidelines for Travelers To ensure a smooth boarding process, the PPA advises all passengers to:
-
Check Local Ordinances: Be aware that certain goods may be legal in the province of origin but prohibited at the destination port.
-
Declare Voluntarily: If unsure, passengers are encouraged to declare items to security personnel for inspection.
-
Arrive Early: Expect more thorough baggage screening and K-9 sweeps at all entry points.
The PPA continues to work closely with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local law enforcement to maintain order and security throughout the port system.
