Gothong Seabus to launch in Mandaue City: A new era for maritime commuting

Commuters in Mandaue City will soon have a faster, more scenic alternative to road traffic. Gothong Southern Shipping (Carlos A. Gothong Lines Inc.), in coordination with Mandaue City officials, officially announced the launch of the Gothong Seabus, scheduled to begin operations by the end of February 2026.

The maritime service is designed to alleviate land-based congestion and provide a reliable, efficient connection between Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.

To ensure maximum accessibility, the initiative includes a free shuttle service to transport passengers directly to the ferry terminal. Commuters can board shuttles at three strategic hubs:

  • Parkmall

  • Mandaue City Hall

  • Pacific Mall

Passengers will be dropped off at the GT Ferry Wharf on Zuellig Avenue, Subangdaku (North Reclamation Area), where they can board the Seabus for a direct trip to Lapu-Lapu City.

In a move to make water-based transport the preferred choice for the daily workforce, Gothong Shipping and city administrators are finalizing a significant fare reduction. Originally proposed at ₱35, the fare is expected to be set at ₱20 per trip, making it one of the most cost-effective transit options in the region.

While the initial phase focuses on the Mandaue–Lapu-Lapu route, Gothong Shipping is already looking toward the horizon. Future phases of the project include exploring routes to Camotes Island, aiming to further bridge the gap between Mandaue and provincial destinations. “This project is more than just a ferry service; it’s about giving Mandauehanons their time back,” said a representative during the February 11 coordination meeting. “By utilizing our waterways, we are opening up the city and providing a flexible, stress-free commute.”
