De La Salle Laguna campus switches to 100% renewable energy in partnership with ACEN RES

De La Salle University (DLSU) Laguna has officially transitioned its campus operations to renewable energy, marking a major milestone in its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The university has entered into a strategic supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity arm of the Ayala Group, to power its Biñan facilities with clean energy.

This transition is made possible through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows high-consumption institutions to choose renewable energy providers over traditional fossil-fuel sources.

The shift to renewable power aligns with DLSU Laguna’s master plan to serve as a hub for scientific and technological advancement within a “living, breathing” environment. By reducing its carbon footprint, the university aims to lead by example, showing other educational institutions in the region that a sustainable future is both achievable and necessary.

“Our switch to renewable energy with ACEN RES is a pivotal step in fulfilling our vision,” said Dr. Jonathan “River” Dungca, Vice President of DLSU Laguna Campus. “This partnership serves as a living testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation for our students and the wider community.”

The partnership highlights the success of the GEOP, a government initiative designed to empower consumers with a monthly average consumption of at least 100 kW to choose their own renewable energy supplier.

ACEN RES currently leads this market segment, holding a 57% market share according to the latest Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) report.

Sheila Mina, Vice President and Head of Account Management at ACEN RES, expressed her pride in the collaboration: “This partnership highlights the growing commitment of institutions to embrace renewable energy. We look forward to supporting DLSU Laguna in their efforts to build a more sustainable campus.”

  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Significant decrease in the campus’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Market Leadership: Partnership with ACEN RES, the dominant player in the Philippine GEOP market.

  • Strategic Location: Strengthening the sustainability profile of the Laguna Technopark corridor.

  • Educational Impact: Integrating real-world sustainable practices into the university’s culture of innovation.
