Cebu Province is finalizing extensive preparations to welcome heads of state and over 3,000 international delegates for the highly anticipated ASEAN Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to take place from May 5 to 9, 2026.
On March 4, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro convened a strategic coordination meeting at the Provincial Capitol with Tourism Assistant Secretary Maria Angela Javier of the National Organizing Committee. The session brought together leaders from the tri-cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, along with directors from key national agencies including the DFA, DILG, DOT, and the Department of National Defense.
The summit will serve as a diplomatic hub for the 11 ASEAN member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

Traffic Decongestion: The implementation of asynchronous classes for students to reduce road volume.

Public Safety: A recommended moratorium on permits for major public events (such as fun runs) during the summit week.

Inter-agency Synergy: Streamlined coordination between the Philippine Coast Guard, Office of Civil Defense, and DPWH for site enhancements and maritime security. “We are looking forward to hosting the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit. Assistant Secretary Javier noted that Cebu’s successful hosting of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meetings in January served as a perfect “dry run.” Beyond the May summit, Cebu has been selected as the premier venue for several high-level ministerial meetings throughout the year:
