Pres. Marcos Jr. opens the famous Mactan Expo, establishing Cebu as a worldwide MICE leader

In a landmark event bridging Philippine history with a high-tech future, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., inaugurated the Mactan Expo, Megaworld’s premier two-level standalone convention center. Located within the vibrant 30-hectare Mactan Newtown township, the facility is set to redefine the region’s capacity for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE).

The inauguration, also attended by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, held profound historical resonance, coinciding with the 505th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. This connection underscores a vision of the Philippines as a permanent, world-class gateway for global exchange.

The Mactan Expo is not merely a venue; it is a tribute to Filipino identity. Developed by property giant Megaworld, the center integrates indigenous textures and Cebuano artistry into a modern, imposing structure.

“The Mactan Expo serves as an important platform for Cebu and for the Philippines, opening new opportunities for tourism, business, and investment,” said Kevin L. Tan, President and CEO of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI). “It is a strong example of how the government and the private sector can work together to deliver something meaningful and successful.”

Strategically positioned near the Mercure Mactan Cebu and Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, the Expo offers:

  • Massive Capacity: A high-ceiling, pillarless convention hall accommodating nearly 3,000 guests for theater-style setups.

  • Flexible Spaces: The main hall can be partitioned into three smaller venues to suit diverse event scales.

  • Premium Amenities: Includes expansive foyers, VIP lounges, dedicated meeting rooms, and a showroom.

  • Beachfront Integration: A veranda that opens directly to the pristine Mactan Newtown Beach.

The Mactan Expo is the first phase of a broader cultural landmark. Megaworld is also developing the Mactan World Museum adjacent to the expo center, which will celebrate Cebu’s heritage and its pivotal role in the Philippine narrative.

“Mactan Expo will become a lasting legacy for our country—a place where the Philippines can host major international gatherings for many years to come,” Tan added.

By combining state-of-the-art business facilities with rich cultural storytelling and a coastal lifestyle, The Mactan Newtown is poised to become the most sought-after destination for international business travelers and tourists alike.
