The toll discount to be implemented by concessionaires San Miguel Corp. and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) for an initial period of two months starting March 23 this year will provide savings for public utility vehicles (PUVs), public utility buses (PUBs) and vehicles involved in freight services.
With the adjusted toll rates, Class 1 vehicles can save up to PHP18 per end-to-end trip, while Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles may save as much as PHP47 and PHP72 per trip, respectively.
Toll discounts will be provided through rebates, which will be credited weekly to all qualified vehicles. The toll discount may be extended subject to review.
In his letter to Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez, Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Executive Director Jay Art Tugade said, “Tollway Concessionaires/Operators expressed that they will voluntarily implement a temporary toll discount for essential transport sectors.”
Secretary Lopez said the toll discounts will be a huge relief for PUV drivers and commuters, as well as consumers as the toll relief will support the country’s general welfare by stabilizing commuter fares and the cost of goods and commodities.
Secretary Lopez expressed his appreciation to San Miguel Corp., kay Mr. Ramon Ang, at sa Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., and Mr. Manny Pangilinan for the big help extended to PUV drivers, commuters, and the micro and small businesses amid the current global fuel crisis.
MTPC tollways network includes, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu, and NLEX Connector Road.
Meanwhile, the SMC Infrastructure operates South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway System (Stages 1, 2, 3, and Elevated Extension), NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), STAR Tollway (Southern Tagalog Arterial Road), Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).
