Exporters urges vigilance amidst temporary relief

The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT), the country’s umbrella organization of exporters, has welcomed the two-week reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that it is timely especially for energy-dependent economies like the Philippines.

The temporary restoration of this critical shipping lane eases immediate concerns over supply disruptions and surging freight costs that had begun to ripple across international markets. For Philippine exporters and importers, this provides a brief but crucial opportunity to stabilize logistics schedules, clear backlogs, and mitigate further cost escalations.

“While we welcome the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, we must underscore that this is only a temporary reprieve,” said PHILEXPORT President Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr. “The uncertainty surrounding its continued accessibility shows the vulnerability of global supply chains to geopolitical flashpoints. Exporters are particularly concerned about the unpredictability of freight rates and delivery timelines, which directly impact our competitiveness in the global market.”
