Strengthening the backbone of national connectivity, the Department of Energy (DOE), through the Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER), recently held a high-level coordination meeting with the Civil Aviation Board (CAB).
The session focused on synchronizing efforts to guarantee energy reliability and operational continuity for the country’s aviation sector.
As the demand for air travel continues to surge, the meeting served as a strategic platform for key stakeholders to address the complexities of fuel supply chains and the resilience of energy infrastructure serving major airports and logistics hubs.
The discussions centered on three primary objectives designed to safeguard the aviation industry against potential energy disruptions:
-
Fuel Supply Chain Integrity: Establishing more robust monitoring systems for aviation fuel stocks to prevent shortages during peak travel seasons or global supply fluctuations.
-
Infrastructure Resiliency: Evaluating the energy backup systems of critical aviation facilities to ensure seamless operations during grid instabilities or natural disasters.
-
Inter-Agency Rapid Response: Streamlining communication protocols between the TFER and CAB to allow for real-time coordination during energy-related emergencies.
The DOE emphasized that energy security is not merely a technical requirement but a pillar of economic stability. By ensuring that the aviation sector has a steady and resilient energy supply, the TFER is directly supporting the movement of people, the delivery of essential goods, and the broader tourism industry.
“Energy resilience is the invisible engine of the transport sector,” the DOE stated. “Our collaboration with the CAB reflects a proactive stance in identifying vulnerabilities before they become crises, ensuring that our skies remain open and our economy remains mobile.”
This meeting marks the beginning of a series of technical working group sessions aimed at formalizing a Joint Energy-Aviation Resilience Framework. Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a culture of preparedness, ensuring that the Philippines’ critical transport sectors are shielded from energy volatility through unified, inter-agency action.
