Modernized Lucena Port Terminal set to transform CALABARZON maritime travel

The Philippine maritime gateway is getting a significant upgrade as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announces the nearing completion and grand opening of the new, world-class passenger terminal building (PTB) at the Port of Lucena.

Designed to replace the previous aging infrastructure, this state-of-the-art facility is a cornerstone of the government’s commitment to modernizing the nation’s transportation hubs, ensuring that the province of Quezon remains a competitive destination for trade and tourism.

The new PTB boasts a massive expansion in scale and service capability. Key highlights of the modern facility include:

  • Expanded Seating: A vast departure hall featuring a 1,000-seat capacity, more than doubling the port’s previous ability to handle peak-season passenger surges.

  • Modern Amenities: Fully air-conditioned lounges, dedicated breastfeeding rooms, improved prayer rooms, and PWD-accessible facilities to ensure inclusive travel.

  • Advanced Security: Integration of high-definition CCTV systems and streamlined X-ray baggage screening to ensure passenger safety without compromising speed.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez emphasized that the terminal is more than just a transit point; it is an economic driver for the Southern Tagalog region.

“The modernization of the Port of Lucena is a vital step in our mission to provide a comfortable and dignified travel experience for the Filipino people,” said Secretary Lopez. “With a thousand-seat capacity, we are now ready to accommodate an influx of both local and foreign tourists, which will directly stimulate the economies of Quezon and its neighboring provinces.”

As a primary link to the island provinces of Marinduque, Romblon, and Masbate, the Port of Lucena plays a pivotal role in the “Strong Republic Nautical Highway.” The upgraded terminal is expected to significantly reduce congestion during holidays and festivals, providing a seamless transition for travelers heading to the hidden gems of the archipelago.

The DOTr and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) are currently conducting final inspections and systems testing. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected in the coming weeks.
