Garuda Indonesia has once again secured its position as the world’s most punctual airline, leading a strong showing for Asian carriers in the latest monthly OAG On-Time Performance (OTP) report. Achieving a near-perfect 98.0% OTP, Garuda remains the global benchmark for reliability.
OAG noted the dominance of the Asia-Pacific region continued with Cebgo (the low-cost subsidiary of Cebu Pacific) and Fuji Dream Airlines securing the second and third spots globally. Cebgo recorded an OTP of 93.5% alongside a perfect record of zero cancellations for April, while Fuji Dream followed closely at 93.3%.
Copa Airlines emerged as a standout performer, climbing to 4th place globally. As the top carrier in Latin America, Copa achieved an OTP of 93.0% with a remarkably low cancellation rate of 0.2%, a significant feat given the airline’s size and operational complexity.
In total, seven airlines globally achieved an OTP of 90% or higher, including Norwegian (90.9%) and Aer Lingus (90.3%).
In the “Major Airlines” category, SAS Scandinavian Airlines led the group with 89.1% of its 23,053 flights arriving on time. Australia’s Qantas took the second spot in this category with an 87.8% OTP.
British Airways also demonstrated strong operational resilience, recording 85.8% OTP and a low cancellation rate of 0.6%.
In North America, Alaska Airlines topped the regional charts with 85.2% on-time flights and a minimal cancellation rate of 0.5%. Among the U.S. “Big Three,” Delta Air Lines secured a spot in the top 10 for major carriers, delivering an 83.6% OTP and a 0.8% cancellation rate.
Conversely, it was a challenging month for Deutsche Lufthansa AG. Impacted by ongoing labor disputes and strikes, the carrier reported an OTP of 71.1% and a high cancellation rate of 18.6%.
Copa Airlines continued its dominance in the “Large” category, being the only carrier in this group to exceed a 90% OTP (93.0%).
In the Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) sector for large airlines, the Wizz Air group led the field. Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air recorded OTPs of 85.4% and 85.1%, respectively, making them the top-performing LCCs in this category for April.
