PEZA, MCIAA to develop 30-hectare Aerotropolis Park in Mactan

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) are collaborating to develop a 30-hectare aerotropolis park near Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga said in a chance interview on Tuesday, June 16, on the sidelines of the Philippines-Poland Investment Dialogue that the 30-hectare property owned by MCIAA is adjacent to the Mactan Economic Zone.

“They have the land, and we have the regulatory framework,” Panga said, adding that the proposed Mactan Aerotropolis Park is expected to be registered with PEZA this year, allowing locators to avail themselves of tax and fiscal incentives.

MCIAA is a government-owned and controlled corporation attached to the Department of Transportation (DOTr). It is mandated to manage and supervise the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and other airports in Cebu Province.

According to Panga, the planned aerotropolis development will help address growing demand for aviation-related investments, including the manufacturing of precision instruments, electronics, and aviation components.

“They can do a lot there,” he said.

Panga added that there is also interest in attracting maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, given that Mactan-Cebu International Airport serves as the country’s premier gateway in the South and hosts several major foreign airlines operating direct international flights.

PEZA has been planning to expand the MEZ to accommodate more investors.

The Aerotropolis Park is among PEZA’s next frontier projects as the agency continues to expand and diversify economic zone development across the country.
