DOE and Toyota Motor Philippines partner to drive practical, inclusive clean mobility solutions

The Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon S. Garin recently met with Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) executives, led by President Masando Hashimoto, to discuss practical, inclusive strategies for building a cleaner, more secure, and more resilient domestic transport sector.

The high-level meeting underscored the vital role of continuous government-industry collaboration in deploying immediate energy and mobility solutions while simultaneously aligning with the nation’s long-term green transition goals.

During the dialogue, TMP presented its multi-pathway approach to achieving carbon neutrality. This strategy leverages a diverse mix of low-carbon technologies—including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and biofuel-compatible models—tailored to current market readiness and existing infrastructure.

Both the DOE and TMP identified biofuels as a highly practical, immediate solution to curb transport emissions, diversify the national energy mix, and maximize existing fuel delivery and vehicle systems.

To ensure long-term viability, both parties emphasized the critical need to fortify local feedstock industries, which will safeguard supply chains and keep cleaner fuels affordable for the public.

The DOE welcomed this continued collaboration with major industry stakeholders to advance practical, scalable, and consumer-centric mobility solutions.

Through active public-private dialogue and shared innovation, the DOE remains dedicated to fostering policies and partnerships that bolster energy security, champion sustainable transport, and build a more competitive energy landscape for Filipino consumers.
