The Department of Energy (DOE), in strategic partnership with the Municipality of Bugallon, Pangasinan, and Koloma, Inc., has launched a comprehensive 2D seismic survey under Service Contract No. 84. This initiative marks a major milestone in the Philippines’ proactive assessment of its native hydrogen potential.
The primary objective of the 2D seismic survey is to map subsurface geological structures and pinpoint potential native hydrogen-bearing formations.
The data gathered from this survey will serve as a critical framework to guide all subsequent exploration and drilling activities in the region.
Native hydrogen, also known as white or geological hydrogen, is naturally produced within the Earth. If the survey confirms commercially viable deposits, it could unlock a powerful, clean, and indigenous energy source for the Philippines.
This discovery would directly accelerate the nation’s transition toward a low-carbon future while significantly bolstering long-term domestic energy security.
The DOE extends its deepest gratitude to the Provincial Government of Pangasinan, the Municipality of Bugallon, and all participating local government units (LGUs). Their unwavering support, local cooperation, and close partnership remain vital to safely and efficiently advancing this forward-looking energy initiative.
