LRT and MRT-3 begin annual Holy Week maintenance for safer operations

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has commenced its annual maintenance activities this Holy Week to ensure the safe and efficient operation of LRT Line 2.

As part of the preparations, a Safety Toolbox Meeting was conducted to reinforce safety protocols, align team coordination, and review risk assessments. The session was spearheaded by the Safety and Security Division in collaboration with the Engineering Department.

The maintenance work includes thorough inspection, repair, and preventive maintenance of the system. These activities are essential in ensuring that train operations resume smoothly and safely after the Holy Week break.

Meanwhile, MRT-3 personnel are also conducting intensive maintenance work starting April 17, the first day of the Holy Week break. Crews have begun replacing worn-out components of the contact wire in the overhead catenary system (OCS), which supplies power to the trains. Additionally, the painting of point machines—critical parts of the MRT-3 signaling system—is underway.

Maintenance activities for both LRT and MRT-3 lines are scheduled to continue through Sunday. Regular train operations are expected to resume on Monday.
