Kennon Road reopens to light vehicles, load limits and travel restrictions in effect

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Task Force announced that Kennon Road is now passable to the general public, subject to strict vehicle weight and height limitations.

To ensure the continued safety of all motorists and the integrity of ongoing rehabilitation works, the following travel guidelines are now in effect:

Access to Kennon Road is currently restricted to light vehicles only. A strict maximum load limit of 5 tons is being enforced.

  • Heavy Vehicles: All trucks, buses, and heavy equipment are strictly prohibited and are advised to utilize Marcos Highway or alternate routes to and from Baguio City.

Motorists should be aware of specific bottlenecks and infrastructure constraints along the route:

  • Camp 2 Temporary Acrow Bridge: The bridge has a strict vertical clearance of 2.50 meters. Vehicles exceeding this height will not be able to pass.

  • Camp 6 Rockshed: The entrance to the rockshed (approaching from Baguio City) is currently limited to one-lane traffic. Drivers should expect minor delays and follow the directions of onsite flaggers.

The public is reminded that Kennon Road remains a high-risk area, particularly during inclement weather.

  • Exercise Caution: Motorists are urged to remain vigilant against potential rockfalls or landslides.

  • Strict Compliance: Drivers must strictly observe all traffic signs, speed limits, and safety regulations.

  • Route Planning: If weather conditions deteriorate, the road may be closed without prior notice for public safety.

The DPWH continues to monitor the stability of the slopes and the condition of the temporary bridges to ensure a safer travel experience for the public. Travelers are encouraged to check official government social media pages for real-time updates before departing.
