President Marcos, First Lady join global leaders in honoring Pope Francis at Vatican funeral

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined world leaders and thousands of Catholic faithful on Saturday to pay their final respects to Pope Francis during his Funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.

The solemn Mass honored Pope Francis’ enduring legacy of humility, service, and social justice—values that resonated deeply with both dignitaries and everyday believers from around the world who gathered to bid farewell.

Malacañang earlier confirmed that the First Couple departed for the Vatican on Thursday, April 24, 2025, to represent the Filipino people at the historic ceremony.

In an official statement, the Palace noted that President Marcos and the First Lady would express the nation’s prayers and condolences, remembering the Pontiff for his compassion, his unwavering support for the marginalized, and his unforgettable 2015 visit to the Philippines.

As the largest Catholic nation in Asia, the Philippines stands in unity with the global Catholic community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis and celebrating his profound impact on the world.
