DOE implements multi-sector strategy to safeguard national energy security amid global shifts

The Department of Energy (DOE) reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a stable and resilient energy supply for the Philippines.

In response to ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East, the DOE is executing a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy designed to protect Filipino consumers and ensure the reliability of national power and fuel systems.

Recognizing the potential impact of international market volatility, the DOE has mobilized a “whole-of-government” approach, focusing on five critical pillars of energy security:

1. Fortifying oil & gas reserves

The Department is actively strengthening the national fuel supply through strategic government procurement and rigorous monitoring of industry inventory. By maintaining close coordination with oil companies, the DOE ensures strict compliance with Minimum Inventory Requirements (MIR) to prevent localized shortages.

2. Enhancing power grid reliability

To insulate the electricity sector from external shocks, the DOE is accelerating the integration of renewable energy and advanced energy storage systems.

  • Optimization: Maximizing the dispatch of indigenous energy resources.

  • Stability: Prioritizing projects that reduce dependence on imported fuels for power generation.

3. Proactive consumer protection

The DOE is deployed nationwide to ensure fair play at the pump. This includes:

  • Price Monitoring: Tracking global price movements to ensure domestic adjustments are fair and transparent.

  • Field Inspections: Conducting routine checks at gas stations to verify fuel quality and quantity standards.

4. Aggressive energy efficiency campaign

The Department is calling on all sectors—industrial, commercial, and residential—to adopt smarter energy habits. Through nationwide energy audits and conservation programs, the DOE aims to reduce overall demand and lower costs for Filipino households.

5. Coordinated national response

The DOE is working in lockstep with partner agencies to deliver targeted support to the most vulnerable sectors, particularly the transport industry, ensuring that energy remains accessible and affordable for those who need it most.

“Our priority is clear: we are acting decisively to ensure that every Filipino home, business, and transport hub remains powered and protected,” said DOE. “Through coordination and transparency, we are building a buffer against global uncertainty.”

The DOE remains vigilant, monitoring international developments 24/7 to adjust policies and interventions as the situation evolves.
